FAQ:
- Why is it called "GreenHouse Theatre?" BHS's colors are green and gold, so the name of our new program partially is a credit to that. However, the deeper meaning of the name refers to what a greenhouse is and does. Greenhouses provide safe places of growth and enrichment unavailable in many other places, which is what we want our theatre program to be for students. It's more than just an extracurricular activity; being in theatre really is being part of a family!
- Who can join the theatre program? The beauty of a program is that it isn't a "club." We have regular meetings, but no set membership. This means that you can come and go as your schedule allows, and anyone can join. Students are required, of course, to maintain good behavior and passing grades outside of the program to continue participation, in order to uphold the reputation of GreenHouse Theatre.
- How do I get involved? GreenHouse Theatre has opportunities for every schedule and interest area. Only have a free Friday afternoon once in a while? Come help us hang lights for an hour! Free to be in a main stage production? Clear your schedule and come to auditions!
- What if I don't want to act? As mentioned above, there are lots of ways to get involved. We're looking for students to work on lights, sound, and theater maintenance. During productions, there will also be opportunities to work on costumes, props, set/scenic, and makeup crews. There's always something going on behind the scenes!
- Who is Mrs. Horn? Mrs. Jessica Horn joined the BHS community in 2015 as an English teacher. She fell in love with theatre as a high school student while working as backstage manager for The Pirates of Penzance her sophomore year. She went on to do tech for many other shows throughout high school including Seussical, The Miracle Worker, It's a Wonderful Life, and Hello, Dolly! As a student at Grove City College, she served on the set and scenic crews for The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Pitman Painters, A Year with Frog and Toad, The Apple Tree, Measure for Measure, Seussical, Les Miserable, RED, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Emperor's New Clothes, and Guys and Dolls and served the makeup designer for The Tempest. In January 2015 she attended the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Cleveland, OH, as the scenic coordinator for Grove City's reprise of RED, which won several honorable mentions for its region. During college she also worked as a stage technician in Pew Fine Arts Center. Mrs. Horn is looking forward to passing on her experience and passion in theatre to BHS's young thespians.
- What events will you be having throughout the year? Each fall, we have a One Acts Festival, featuring 3-5 short plays and various monologues. In the spring, we hold our main stage production.
- What are the five points?
- One hundred percent mental focus at all times.
- Have fun.
- Be funny.
- No negative Nancies!
- Remember the Five Points. You will be quizzed!
- (Optional) Keep it fresh.
- Why do you spell the name fancy like that? What's the difference between "theatre" and "theater"? The "theatre" refers to the performing arts. The "theater" is the building (in our case, BHS's auditorium), itself.
